Blind
I went to the Serpentine Gallery today to see Lygia Pape’s Magnetized Space. There I found hundreds of perfect, diagonal golden threads coming down from above, like beautiful rays of sunshine emerging from the sky. Apparently the installation is made from one continuous spool which, if true, is an amazing feat. I wanted to take some photos but it wasn’t permitted. I also desperately...

CPOY: Pictorial Category (quarter finals)
This made me happy - I made it into the quarter finals for Pictorial Category for CPOY (College Photographer of the Year). This category is for ‘a graphic image that expresses beauty, tension, harmony, chaos and other abstract concepts through composition, tonal and color relationships more than through human interaction’. I got voted out at this stage however you can see my photo as...

A Restless Soul
At the bottom of the valley in Málaga, Spain, in a makeshift shack built from an assortment of materials, eight people are sleeping on a mixture of mattresses, sofas and beds. It’s very late and the door is open to allow a cool breeze to come into the room. Various sounds can be heard – crickets, wild dogs, the flapping of the tarpaulin roof, snoring, and the continual blast of the TV that...

La Palmilla
I have spent the last two weeks following a young drug addict living in an unconventional rehab in the hills of La Palmilla, Málaga in Spain. Tales of a strong community and its internal struggles to follow.

Toeing the line
With over 28,000 fans on Facebook and a staggering 4 million views on YouTube, Nikoline Nielsen with her outspoken beliefs is allegedly the most-viewed Dane within Denmark.
“You can have your own culture at home,” she says. “But when you go out in society, you need to be part of the group, learn to speak Danish — if you want to have a job, you need to take that headscarf off.”
However, it is not...

A day in the life of Samone
Samone lives with her 3 year old son, Samuel, in the south of Aarhus. We met while grocery shopping a few months ago and I instantly liked her. For our assignment ‘a day in the life of…’, I spent 24 hours with her and Samuel, documenting their weekend while trying to show the feeling of their relationship, without words.

Samone & Samuel
This portrait assignment was about relationships and love. It was about trying to show contact and tenderness between two people, whether that was two teenagers in love, a older married couple, or a mother and her child. I spent the afternoon with Samone and her son Samuel, attempting to capture a moment shared between them.

The lovely chaps at photo studio Yellow Cock kindly volunteered to be in my group portrait assignment, whereby I had to photograph three people I didn’t know, who had something in common with each other. Perhaps photographing photographers is not to be advised. In this photo, they appear very well-behaved, but in...
Tarek
Tarek is a local mechanic, originally from Lebanon, running his own business in the Brabrand area. Due to a recent fire at his garage, which was suspected arson, the walls are black from soot and he works using only daylight. Once the sun begins to set, it is time for him to head home. These portraits were taken at dusk, at the end of his working day, using flash as the main light source.

With Joachim Ladefoged
Today we spent the afternoon with VII photographer, Joachim Ladefoged. We looked at a full retrospective of his work and he shared anecdotes of his adventures. What a talented and genuine person he is. He definitely inspired each and every one of us.

Reflections
It’s been a busy time here in Århus, getting to know new people and places and thinking about where my photography might take me. In many respects it feels like I have been here for months. Here at the Danish School of Media & Journalism, I’m in a class with nine talented photographers from across the globe, each with their own interesting background and reason for being here....

Sunday 6th February 2011 Water temperature: max 2°C / min 0°C
I shiver as I walk with Helle along the pier towards the sea, wrapped in a small towel. I realise later that my only thoughts are on how shockingly cold the water might be, rather than feeling self conscious of my nudity. As my body touches the water, I breathe in sharply and feel hundreds of pinpricks all over my skin. It feels...

Hello Aarhus
It’s been an eventful few days and not the smoothest of transitions to my new Danish home, Aarhus. But I suppose it wouldn’t be a proper adventure if there weren’t a few teething problems, right? To counteract the negatives (beloved marmite confiscated at customs, realisation that new home is a concrete box at the scary end of a foggy industrial estate, front window is smashed up...
